Abstract

Due to the travel disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the physical event of the 19th ECASIA is postponed until 2022. For dates and further details, please click on the ECASIA 2022 tab on this website. A one day virtual conference will be held on Friday, 18th June 2021 as a forerunner to the physical conference in 2022. The first half of this one-day event will focus on Surface Analyses for Advanced Manufacturing and related topics. The second half of the day will be dedicated to Surface and Interface Analyses in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the 2021 and 2022 ECASIA events will uphold the -SPIRIT OF ECASIA- to bring together scientists from universities, industry and instrument suppliers to bridge the gap between fundamental and applied research in surface science and to follow new trends in instrumentation. ECASIA -21/22 will bring into focus the cutting-edge scientific and technological developments in materials science/engineering, modern electronics and life-science/biotechnology, with particular reference to surface and interface analysis. The Modelling, Simulation And Innovative Characterisation (MOSAIC) group within the Biomaterials Cluster of the Bernal Institute, University of Limerick, is organising these events. Limerick is ideally placed to host ECASIA -21/22 due to the presence of the University of Limerick-s Bernal Institute, a centre for excellence in materials and surface characterisation. The area also boasts a large number of high-tech industries involved in advanced manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, biomedical devices and associated supply chains. Excellent academic educational institutions such as the University of Limerick and Limerick Institute of Technology make it an ideal hub for scientific exchange. The University of Limerick is situated on 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, with the River Shannon as its unifying focal point. Located 4 kms outside Limerick City, the University is renowned for its superb facilities, including Failte Ireland approved on-site accommodation, well equipped lecture theatres, high quality catering, sports facilities including a 50m pool and attractive riverside walks. Limerick is also the gateway to Ireland-s breath-taking Wild Atlantic Way which offers visitors an opportunity to see the longest defined coastal driving route in the world and local attractions such as museums, cathedrals, castles and much more. Ireland is renowned for its warm and friendly welcome, and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you in 2021/2022.
